Well executed passes and good movement from Lou Wrightson and Emma Barron kept the Hornets on their toes and gave Chard a series of short corner opportunities.
A moment's lapse of concentration and a breakdown in Chard's man-marking opened up the pitch for the Hornets. A strike on goal crept passed the defence and just inside the left post to see Chard go 1-nil down. Minutes later a second goal followed in similar style.
Chard goalie, Anna Dewick, made an impressive diving save to give Chard back their confidence. This late boost in the first half provided Chard with the foundations to build an attack, win another short corner and, thanks to a spectacular strike from Katy Jones, ensure that the team did not leave empty handed.
The second half failed to deliver any further goals for either side but did not disappoint the spectators. The result certainly did not reflect the quality of the hockey played by the Chard side and the side is already looking forward to their next meeting with the Hornets in the new year.
Chard's Player of the Match was goalscorer Katy Jones.
