For once the scoreline (4-0 to Taunton Vale) did not reflect the team's performance, which was in a different league to previous weeks.
In the opening minutes an early interception, good communication and fluid passing helped Chard advance quickly towards goal. This wasn't to be enough however as the Taunton side launched a well executed counter-offensive to score the first goal of the match.
With goalie Anna Dewick already committed a second goal came not long after, as the Chard defence failed to reorganise quickly enough to defend an open goal.
Keeping possession, thanks to a few skilful manoeuvres in midfield and promising breaks by the forward line, Chard held off further attacks by Vale for the remainder of the first half and threatened on a number of occasions, winning three or more short corners in quick succession. Sadly continuing their run of missed opportunities, Chard were unable to capitalise on their advantage and find a way past the Taunton goalie.
In the second half, a tired Chard side were further disadvantaged when Lou Wrightson was unable to return to the pitch having been injured by a lifted ball. Chard slogged it out until the final whistle and, whilst not taking home any points, left proud of their efforts and with renewed confidence for the weeks ahead.
Chard named Natalie Wainwright as their Player of the Match.
