Chard brought a strong squad of 14 to their home fixture against 4th place ECVH on Saturday.

The game was slow starting and Chard struggled to get themselves into the game with some sloppy passes and lack of assertion allowing ECVH chances on the ball.

A strong defensive combination of 1st and 2nd runners Natalie Slade and EJ Hines and keeper Hannah McGown ensured ECVH didn’t obtain success from their short corner efforts.

Chard fielded a pacey team and, getting back into their game, wingers Abbi Wheaton, Amy Goss and Jess Withers made some hard to match runs down the wings to asset Chard’s dominance on the attack.

Shortly before the first half whistle Withers deflected the ball above head height in the D for attacker Charlotte Mooney to knock into the top left corner of the goal.

A strong half time talk from captain McGown and coach James Spurdle ensured Chard came back out on the attack. Following a lovely pass from Emma Cridland, Mooney was quick to secure her second goal but a foul led to her being shown a green card.

The well deserved third goal came from the team work of joint vice-captains Amy Goss and Lyndsay Blackshaw. Blackshaw took the ball on the run from the halfway line delivering a well paced pass into the attacking D. After Mooney unsuccessfully attempted a shot on goal for her hat trick the loose ball was picked up by Goss and cleanly slotted in to the goal.
