Hatrick for Butcher as Chard win second in a row

On Saturday 14th November Chard Ladies travelled away to Cullompton to play against ECVH Ladies who were positioned just one place below them in the league.

ECVH came out strong and had an early opportunity to take the lead when awarded a penalty flick following a strike at goal. Despite the penalty ending up in the back of the goal, it was ruled to be disallowed and Chard had a lucky escape. ECVH were not disheartened and managed to take the lead a few minutes later following several penalty corners in succession. Chard’s defence battled hard to keep the score at 1.0 with an exceptional game from girl of the match, Emma Cridland who prevented any attacks from the right wing.

Chard’s forwards managed to attack on the counter and were award a penalty corner following a run down the right wing from Amy Goss. Chard took this advantage and Ruth Butcher scored as a result of a well-executed short corner.

Chard doubled their lead by half time, with Butcher scoring another goal when the ball tricked over the line following a miss-hit.

Chard continued strongly in the second half with some strong attacks from the midfields and forwards. Runs from Maya Preston and EJ Hines created chances on goal which were well saved by the ECVH keeper. However, Chard managed to seal their third goal, with defender Katy Jones claiming an assist from a 16 yard hit out, as the ball sliced through the midfield and Ruth Butcher got her hatrick.

EVHC continued battling and pressed hard on Chard’s defence. They managed to get their second goal with 10 minutes left on the clock. Chard’s keeper, Hannah McGown was forced to make some impressive saves in the dying minutes of the game to ensure Chard kept their lead. The game ended with 2.3 to the away side, sealing Chard’s second win in succession.

Girl of the game was Emma Cridland.
