Chard took the journey up the M5 to play Bridgwater ladies. With having only 12 players and a crippled captain supporting from the sideline, Chard had a positive start. Passing was strong and movement off of the ball was quick. During a brief loss of concentration, Bridgwater took advantage and scored the first goal of the game. Alas Chard did not let their heads drop. DoD was gained during the first 15 minutes of play when Sasha Taylor was tripped by a Bridgwater player and subsequently went flying and landed in a heap on the floor. Chard gained their goal from a well practiced short corner routine, from which Lois Butcher found Kerryn Mullis on post who nudged the ball around the keeper, making the score 1-1 at half time.
The second half saw Bridgwater coming out fighting to get the lead. Chard had let their heads drop and let Bridgwater work into Chards D, where they were then able to take a strike into our goal and take a two goal lead.
Chard defence worked well and made some excellent tackles which allowed some good movement up the pitch. Bridgwater ended up having two players sent off with green cards, which allowed Chard to get back into the game and push up the pitch.
Special mention to Chloe Park for trying to start a fight with a Bridgwater forward. With handbags down, Chard continued to put up a good fight to the end. Unfortunately the game ended 3-1 to Bridgwater.
MoM - Layla Anderson
DoD - Sasha Taylor
