Chard reaffirmed that they definitely deserved to be promoted into Sedgemoor 1 this season with another fantastic win away against Bridgwater Ladies 2s.
Winning the toss for first push-back Chard started strong from the beginning. With excellent plays down the field Chard looked sure on for a goal. Bridgwater's defence and keeper worked hard and Chard were denied all of their initial chances. A short corner for Bridgwater gave them their first chance of the game and a successful conversion put Bridgwater in the lead. Chard were quick to fight back and Maya Preston quickly settled the score with a cracking goal taking the score to 1-1 for the first half.
Energised by half times sweets (thanks to the Szczepanskis), Chard looked like the stronger team again. The ladies once again proved that excellent team play and simple passes really pay off with the ball travelling from Lou Wrightson in defence via Amy Goss, captain Hannah McGown and Maya Preston to Ruth Butcher in the D who converted her first goal of the game. Shortly after Ruth took her second with another simple, well-delivered ball pass the Bridgwater keeper into the corner of the goal.
Rachel Ireland-Jones made some excellent plays down the centre but unfortunately Chard's score line stayed at 3. Despite some excellent defending and keeping from the Chard back five Bridgwater managed to bridge the gap with a second goal leaving the final score at 3-2.
