The rain thankfully held off for Chard's third league match of the season. Unfortunately, this didn't bode well in Chard's favour as they fell to their first defeat of the season against a strong Weston side.
It could have been a different picture if the home side had converted an excellent break from star player Ruth Butcher, however it was Weston who took the lead. Despite a valiant dive from keeper Anna Dewick the visitors scored a penalty early on in the game. Chard remained determined having given such great performances in their previous matches. Chard's hard work went unrewarded when Weston-Super-Mare took another goal in the first half.
After a half time team talk from Liam Murphy (and several sugar boosts from the Szczepanski's much loved sweet box) Chard took to the pitch again determined to turn the game around in the second half. Chard looked hopeful as they continued to apply pressure to Weston's defence but Chard didn't manage to convert.
Chard's defence held strong throughout the second half led by Captain EJ Hines and Player of the Match Lou Wrightson. Regrettably Weston managed to match their three points with three goals when a save from Dewick deflected out to a Weston player who managed to sweep the ball across the line.
