After losing their first league game against Chard seconds the week before the home-side started the game a lot more positively with slick passing and managed to open up the visitors defence with soaring runs down enter flank. Chard were soon in front when Richard Jones shot was deflected into the net, however quickly afterwards Rollo Squires and John Reader had managed to extend the lead to an unbelievable level. Civil Service were emotionally frustrated and with a couple of green cards shown meant they should have been on the back foot but it seemed to have the opposite effect with the visitors playing a lot more assuredly and converted one of their chances, Duncan Lewis secured a goal from a penalty corner and Alfie Crump added a fifth before Taunton pulled a goal back before half-time. With all this end to end activity both sides in the second half slowed down as they could not keep up with the pace, both sides not paying accurately as they tried for the perfect pass which was easily cut out most occasions by the experienced defences. Civil Service converted first from a penalty corner when a save by Coombes was flicked past Captain Cheffey flaying at the ball on the goal-line. Chard had a period of more possession around the Civil Service D and as the ball broke lose Lewis was on hand to slot the ball home to secure the victory.
