Chard suffered their first league defeat of the season as they were unable to fight back from a two goal first half deficit.

This was at times a subdued performance in which communication, speed and accuracy of passing could all have been better, particularly in the first half. For all the promising approach play, Chard's attacking efforts foundered against Yeovil's well drilled and densely packed defence and it was 25 minutes into the game before they managed a meaningful shot at goal, Gary Wheaton's effort just wide of the post. By then Chard were two down, the home side being well worth their lead, scoring from their first penalty corner on 12 minutes and again from open play rounding off an incisive counterattack in the 22nd minute.

Chard's youthful running and commitment started to pay dividends the longer the second half progressed as Yeovil legs began to tire. With swifter ball distribution, Chard could have stretched the home defence to greater effect but they did at least carve out several promising chances and bring Yeovil's keeper more into the game, while the killer touch in front of goal remained elusive. Chard's attacking momentum earned them a couple of penalty corners, but on both occasions the ball was not stopped at the top of the D and the chance of a clear strike on goal went begging.

At centre half, the experienced Wheaton orchestrated much of the team's best attacks. Flynn Bowie also ran tirelessly at left half. Aside from the goals conceded, the rotating back four of Arthur Handley, Matt Edwards, Simon Green, Calum Gilbert, Nigel Parris and the unflappable Steve Dare gave such good cover to Luke Bradshaw that the keeper hardly had a save to make.
